In a race to achieve maximum number of technology user shares each brand is coming up with their own Smartphone, Huawei also seems to have jumped the bandwagon. Like any other Smartphone out there Huawei Ascend P1 too claims to be one of its kind with various features and relatively cheaper than other phones. Let us find out how much does this phone stands true to its claims.

Look and Design

The look and feel of the phone is classic rectangle, no angular edges or soft shapes; This makes it look like a block of rectangle when you hold it in your hand. Overall finishing of the phone is in plastic with shiny black color coating. The screen of Ascend measures 4.3 Inches and it is scratch proof because it is covered all over with Gorilla Glass coating. Other physical features include a front facing camera, three essential buttons in black located at the bottom of the phone and a speaker at the top.

At the back of the phone, you will find 3.5mm jack for headphone, a USB port and a SIM card slot. The left side of the phone has a volume button, the power button is located on the right hand side along with a port for micro SD card.

The phone measures 7.7mm in thickness, this means that it is slimmer even after having a tapered back. When we compare it with other handsets like HTC with a thickness of 8.9mm and Galaxy at 8.6 this phone stands slimmer in comparison with only 7.7mm thick.

Another interesting thing to notice about P1 is that this phone fits easily in the palm of your hand. When we take a look at other phones with a display of 4.7 inches and 4.8 they seem rather chunky. So, this is a Smartphone that is easy to grip and weighs at 110 grams making it stylish and good to look at.


Huawei Ascend P1 is priced at $ 499 that is powered with dual core 1.5 GHz (Cortex-A9) processor and runs on ice cream sandwich. A graphic card of PowerVR (SGX540 chip) for enhanced graphical experience. 1GB memory of this phone promises good gaming experience to gaming enthusiasts. Additionally you will be easily able to perform other tasks that require intensive processing.

The 4.3 touch screen is Super AMOLED making the images and display sharper. You get an enhanced image quality with the resolution of 540 x 960 pixels and 256 Per Pixel. As far as the memory goes, the phone is provided with an internal memory is 4GB but you can expand it up to 32GB.

An 8 mp camera is located at the back of the phone with LED flash so that you can comfortably shoot pictures in low light or dim light. You can easily capture a video of 1080p at 30 frames per second. The front facing camera is 1.3mp to enable video chat.

P1 is capacitated with 3G-network connectivity along with HSUPA and HSDPA. Other things include a Wi-Fi connection and Bluetooth functionality. If you observe closely then you will find that all these specifications are provided in a phone costing $ 499, this is amazing. Ascend P1 Performance

The build and quality of this phone is good and on par with the big brands that are already established in Smartphone industry.

The 8mp camera is good in capturing images even in uncomfortable light conditions. The video quality is standard as sometimes the video may disappoint you with a bit of blur. Screen quality is good as it is scratch proof and the display is relatively sharp. When it comes to battery life of Ascend P1 the performance is good, you can easily get through a whole day of video streaming and talking without having to charge your phone. Even if you forget to charge it, you can still make it through a couple of days. However, if you are looking for browsing then this phone may disappoint you a bit, as this activity consumes its battery and before the end of the day, you may need to charge it. Therefore, it all depends upon the usage and the activity that you are indulging in.

The UI of this phone is Android based so you will find it similar to any other Android powered phone. The phone is responsive to touch and easy to navigate through the menu. The performance is on par with other rival phones in the technology market.
